Informer Cloud to Ellucian Cloud

Connecting Informer Cloud to your Ellucian Cloud uses a protected, multi-layered path so institutional data flows safely between the systems. A database connection starts in Informer Cloud, travels through an encrypted SSH tunnel to your local network, passes through your firewall, and reaches Ellucian Cloud over a dedicated VPN. The result combines Informer Cloud's analytics with your Ellucian data, encrypted at every step.

The connection path, in order:

1. Informer Cloud

The analytics and BI platform where the database connection originates.

2. SSH tunnel

An SSH tunnel links Informer Cloud to your local network. It has two parts: an SSH client that runs on your local network (Entrinsik provides the configuration files and steps), and an SSH server that runs in the Informer Cloud infrastructure. The database connection travels through this tunnel from Informer Cloud to your local network. For the client setup, contact Support for the SSH tunnel configuration.

3. Local network

Your on-premises infrastructure, secured with firewalls and network security. A server here hosts the SSH client and also needs a connection to the Ellucian-provided VPN. The SSH client has a small footprint, so it needs no special hardware: any machine or VM that meets its operating system's requirements can host it. The connection uses this server as a jump box on the way to Ellucian Cloud.

4. VPN connection

A VPN links your local network to Ellucian Cloud. Ellucian provides the configuration files and steps. The database connection uses this VPN to go from your local network to Ellucian Cloud.

5. Ellucian Cloud

The Ellucian enterprise data management system, the endpoint of the connection.
