Dataset role breakdown
Specific actions on Datasets are restricted by a User's role within a Team and whether the content is shared or owned. Below is each role's access.
Member
Member is the lowest-level User of a Team in Informer. These Users have the least access and the most restrictions on what they can do with Datasets.
Permissions for new content: none. Members cannot create new Datasets.
Permissions when shared. Members have the following access to Datasets shared with them:
- View Datasets available to the Team
- Filter
- Save private Filters
- Export
- Move and format columns
- Add Groups
- Add Aggregates
- Create a Pivot Table (cannot save)
- Export a Pivot Table
- Use Discover to create Visuals (cannot save)
- Download Visuals
- Drill down in Visuals
- Add or delete Comments
- View Access
Permissions when owned. Members have the same access when they own a Dataset as when one is shared with them.
Member Plus
Member Plus has the second-lowest level of access. Unlike Members, Member Plus Users can create new Reports backed by Datasets (Dashboards, Comparison Boards, and Data Views).
Permissions for new content: none. Member Plus cannot create new Datasets.
Permissions when shared. Member Plus has the same rights as Members to Datasets shared with them, plus the ability to create Reports backed by a Dataset.
Permissions when owned:
- All Member rights
- Create a Data View Report from a Dataset
Designer
Designers have the next level of access. Unlike Member Plus, Designers can create new Datasets by uploading a file.
Permissions for new content:
- Create a new Dataset by uploading a file (not from a Datasource)
- Cannot edit or refresh the Dataset
Permissions when shared. Designers have the same rights as Member Plus to Datasets shared with them.
Permissions when owned:
- All Member Plus rights
- Save a Pivot Table to Visuals
- Save Visuals
Data Wizard
Data Wizards have more access than Designers, though the two roles are very similar. The key difference is the ability to create Datasets from Datasources.
Permissions for new content. Data Wizards have the same access as Designers and can create new Datasets from available Datasources. They can also create and delete Snapshots from Datasets they own.
Permissions when shared:
- All Designer rights
- Cannot refresh
- Cannot edit
- Cannot save Pivot Tables
- Cannot save Visuals
- Cannot share
Permissions when owned:
- Same as permissions when shared
- Can edit
- Create and delete Snapshots
Publisher
Publishers have the second-highest access to Reports. They share much of the same access as Data Wizards, with additional options for Datasets they own.
Permissions for new and shared content. Publishers have the same access as Data Wizards to Datasets that are new or shared with them.
Permissions when owned. Publishers have the same rights as Data Wizards to Datasets they own, plus the ability to share those Datasets with other Teams.
Admin
The Admin role has the highest level of access to Datasets and should be limited to a few Users. Admins have all the same access as Publishers, plus the ability to add or remove Users from a Team and change a User's role within a Team. Admins can also change a Dataset's owner to another Team's Admin.
This is not the same as the Informer Administrator login.
