End of support for SQL Server 2012 and earlier

As of July 12, 2022, Microsoft ended security support for SQL Server 2012. Microsoft follows a Fixed Lifecycle Policy where products are supported for a minimum of five years after release, with some products (including SQL Server) receiving additional support. To stay on the most up-to-date releases, Informer version 2025.2.0 and higher will not support versions of Microsoft SQL Server past their end-of-support date.

Impact​

This affects any Microsoft SQL Server version past its end-of-support date, including but not limited to:

  • SQL Server 2012
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 AU3
  • SQL Server 2008 R2
  • Any earlier version

These legacy versions are no longer officially supported by:

  • Datasources on Informer Cloud
  • Standard Informer on-premises upgrades and installations

Entrinsik recommends upgrading SQL Server to the most recent version, or at least SQL Server 2014.

Maintaining a legacy SQL Server​

Entrinsik provides options for clients that cannot upgrade SQL Server, for both on-premises and Cloud deployments.

  • On-premises: Additional steps are required to downgrade Informer's native connectivity to support legacy SQL Server versions. See the Installing JDBC Drivers guide in the Configuration section.

    A legacy SQL Server that connects via the new driver is not intended to work and will likely behave unexpectedly. Entrinsik is not responsible for finding solutions or workarounds for behavior from versions Microsoft no longer supports.

  • Cloud: Cloud deployments need a separate Cloud instance to support a legacy SQL Server version. Contact Informer Sales for the additional deployment costs.
