Report role breakdown

Specific actions on Reports are restricted by a User's role within a Team and whether the content is shared or owned. Below is each role's access.

Member

Member is the lowest level of Team User in Informer. These Users have the least access and the most restrictions on what they can do with Reports.

Permissions for new content: none. Members cannot create new Reports.

Permissions when shared. Members have the following access to Dashboards, Comparison Boards, or Data Views shared with them:

  • Filter
  • Pin to Homepage
  • Download Visuals
  • Drill down in Visuals
  • Export Pivot to CSV
  • View and export data
  • Move Columns (Data View only)
  • Add groups and aggregates (Data View only)
  • Create Pivot Tables (Data View only)
  • Custom Filters are available if the Dataset is also shared
  • Add or delete comments

Members have the following access to an Ad hoc Query Report shared with them:

  • Run Ad hoc Queries available to their Team
  • Filter
  • Save Filters
  • Export
  • Move Columns
  • Add groups and aggregates
  • Use Discover to create Visuals (not save)
  • Create Pivot Tables (not save)
  • Add or delete comments

Permissions when owned. Members have the same access listed above when they own a Dashboard, Comparison Board, Data View, or Ad hoc Query Report.

Templates: Members can view, comment on, run, and export Templates that their Team owns.

Member Plus

Member Plus is the second level of Team User. Unlike Members, Member Plus can create new Reports backed by Datasets (Dashboards, Comparison Boards, and Data Views) and has additional options on Reports they own.

Permissions for new content:

  • Create Reports from available Datasets
  • Create and manage Tags

Member Plus cannot create new Ad hoc Query Reports.

Permissions when shared: the same rights as Member to Dashboards, Comparison Boards, Data Views, or Ad hoc Query Reports shared with them.

Permissions when owned. When they own a Dashboard, Comparison Board, or Data View:

  • All Member rights
  • Edit, copy, and delete
  • Create and assign Tags
  • Move Folders
  • Rename
  • Change ownership to a Team

When they own an Ad hoc Query Report, they have all Member rights.

Templates: Member Plus can view, comment on, run, and export Templates that their Team owns.

Designer

Designers have the next level of access.

Permissions for new content:

  • For Dashboards, Comparison Boards, and Data Views: all Member Plus rights.
  • For Ad hoc Query Reports: create Ad hoc Queries from available Datasources, and create and manage Tags.

Permissions when shared: the same rights as Member Plus to Reports shared with them.

Permissions when owned. For Dashboards, Comparison Boards, and Data Views: all Member Plus rights. For Ad hoc Query Reports:

  • All Member Plus rights
  • Edit, copy, and delete
  • Assign Tags
  • Move Folders
  • Rename
  • Change ownership to a Team
  • Share with any User or Team

Templates: the same permissions as Member Plus, plus the ability to create new Templates.

Data Wizard

Data Wizards have increased access over Designers, though the two roles are very similar. The key difference is the ability to create Datasets from Ad hoc Queries.

Permissions for new content: the same as Designers.

Permissions when shared or owned: the same rights as Designers. For Ad hoc Query Reports, Data Wizards can additionally create Datasets from, and make copies of, the Reports shared with them.

Templates: the same permissions as Designers.

Publisher

Publishers have the second-highest access to Reports. They share much of the same access as Data Wizards but with additional options for Dashboards, Comparison Boards, and Data Views they own.

Permissions for new and shared content: the same as Data Wizards.

Permissions when owned: the same rights as Data Wizards. For Dashboards, Comparison Boards, and Data Views, Publishers can additionally share the Reports with other Teams and generate and view external links to them.

Templates: the same permissions as Data Wizards, plus the ability to share Templates with other Teams.

Admin

The Admin role has the highest level of access to Reports and should be limited to a few Users. Admins have all the access of Publishers, plus the ability to add or remove Users from a Team and change a User's role within a Team.

note

This is not the same as the Informer Administrator login.
