Email with Office 365 OAuth

Informer 5 ships with a pre-configured Microsoft Entra Enterprise Application that provides the permissions and authorization workflow for modern (OAuth) authentication, a secure way to set up email through Microsoft's API. It is available after you enable Email in Administration and choose the Microsoft Account (Office 365, Outlook) authorization option.

Requirements

A licensed inbox account is required for the authorization workflow. This only needs to be a licensed inbox, not a full Office 365 account.

Permissions

The permissions are pre-set by the Entrinsik Informer Email API Access Enterprise Application and must be granted during setup. Depending on how your Entra tenant handles permission delegation, the consent may be a single approval, or an Entra admin may have to approve the request first. In the latter case the workflow runs twice: the first request prompts the admin, and after approval the second completes the OAuth token exchange.

Set up the integration

  1. Open Informer in a private/incognito browser session, so cached credentials do not cross-contaminate the OAuth workflow.
  2. Log in as the local admin account or another local Super User.
  3. Go to Administration → Settings, enable Email if it is disabled, choose Microsoft Account (Office 365, Outlook) in the Email settings, and click Save.
  4. A sign-in popup loads. If it does not, or you need to re-authenticate, click Connect under Email → Email Authorization.
  5. In the sign-in window, enter the licensed inbox used for authorization.
  6. Complete the consent and authorization screens. At minimum you enter a password challenge and accept a permission request.
  7. When the workflow finishes, the Email settings screen shows a Test Connection button, and Connect changes to Disconnect.

Default "From:" address

If the authenticating inbox is not allowed to Send on Behalf of, set a default From address and enforce it: open Email Server Settings, go to the Advanced tab, enter a default From address (the same inbox used to authenticate), check the Always use... option, and Save.
